wyatt just had his last tournament of the season in hartford, CT. It was a trip worth going to just to see some of the sites in the other states closer to us. i had a great time watching my boy play his last year of hockey with the portland jr. hawks program. gonna miss it.
wyatt played defense this year. he did so much better playing that position! wish he could have played defense all along.
he had a great group of kids on his team this year. they had lots of fun hanging together.
i'm really gonna miss this. thank goodness i still have one in hockey. i'll hopefully be able to watch wyatt play in a mens league if he chooses to do so.
kelsey's cheer season has come to an end. she is still tumbling weekly and taking private lessons for her tumbling to improve before try outs. it is her goal to make varsity this year. i really hope she makes it. she really deserves it.
the girls cheered both football and basketball. they cheered for the jv teams and sometimes they also cheered for the girls jv games. it was a lot of fun to watch.
i think one of my favorite parts of jv and varsity is that they get to compete. they go up against other schools with their dance/cheer/tumbling routines and it is so much fun to watch. the girls get really nervous, but super excited. their team took first place in every competition except for state.
one of the main reasons kelsey did not make varsity this year was because of her tumbling. she didn't have her back hand spring down and it is mandatory to make varsity. she worked really hard this year and with lots of support from her coach and teammates, she finally did it! here's the video.
the girls had a ton of fun getting ready together for competitions and having team sleep overs. i'm a little sad for her that the season has ended, but try outs for next season is less than a month away!
riley's hockey season with portland has also come to an end. he had his last tournament of the season up in richmond bc. we spent so much time being put in the wrong brackets this year that it wasn't as challenging for riley as it could have been. we wish we would have been moved up where we belong, but you can only do so much. he still had some great games and had 6 shut outs this season! so proud of him.
we enjoy watching him and how well he tracks the puck. he's got eagle eyes!
this is not a very good picture as i took it with my phone, but this was a fantastic kick save on a slap shot.
this was from the tournament we attended in phoenix. i loved how they lined the boys up for the national anthem. it was so cool.
this picture cracks me up. after we won the championship game, each player was called up to receive their medal and then shook hands with the coaches and players from the other team. i asked riley what the coaches were talking to him about when he was shaking his hand and he said they first asked how old he was. when he told them he was 12, they then asked him how tall he was (5' 8") and they couldn't believe his size! it was so funny.
here's me and my champ. loved this tournament in arizona sunshine!
riley too has made a lot of lasting friendships in hockey. some of these kids will play together next year when they move up to bantam level. some are younger and will stay at the peewee lecvel. i'm looking forward to next season as i think we will have an amazing team and it will be lead by coach scott again. such a relief!
so, we are done with sports for wyatt and kelsey for the time being. riley was asked to play on a triple a elite hockey team out of arizona and he said yes. they will play two tournaments, one in chicago next week and one in simi valley next month. he also already started playing travel baseball. they've already traveled up to washington and over to phoenix for tournaments. there are a lot more to go. we are forever the busy family. i wouldn't have it any other way!
